Morinville CPO Sergeant wins provincial award

by Morinville News Staff

Town of Morinville Community Peace Officer, Sergeant William Norton received the Alberta Association of Community Peace Officers’s (AACPO) Award of Excellence during the Annual Regimental Banquet Feb. 25.

Norton received the peer-nominated award based on the award’s criteria: Knowledge and Professionalism of the Peace Officer, Commitment to the Profession, Peace Officer’s activity in the Association, and the Peace Officer’s activity in the community they live or work in.

“It is nice to be recognized,” Norton said. “The award is not why I do what I do. The reason I give back is because I feel we can all be better. The things I do in the community, the coaching – for example – is something I am enthusiastic about.”

In addition to the award and accolades of his peers, Norton received $1000 for the non-profit or an organization of his choice. As of deadline, he had not chosen a beneficiary but said the monies would be split between Morinville and his home of Westlock, where he does volunteerism.
