Champion Petfoods Named Top Employer

by Morinville News Staff

Champion Petfoods was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Small & Medium Employers of 2016 through the Canada’s 100 Top Employers project.

Canada’s Small & Medium Employers recognizes the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that offer the nation’s best workplaces and forward-thinking human resources policies.

The editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers evaluate companies using eight criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.

Champion was recognized for encouraging employees to save for the future with contributions to a defined benefits pension plan, and helping employees balance work and their personal lives through a variety of alternative work arrangements, including flexible hours, telecommuting and a compressed work week option.

“It is tremendously exciting to be named one of the Top Small and Medium Employers in Canada,” said Frank Burdzy, Champion Petfoods President and CEO. “Our vision is to be trusted by pet lovers worldwide; this award is a testament to our team living our vision, mission and values. The leadership, authenticity, innovation and responsibility demonstrated by our team every day is the reason we have been recognized for this award.”

Champion Petfoods has 249 full-time and four part-time employees in Canada. The company added 35 new positions in the past year.

The Morinville company was previously named one of Alberta’s Top 70 Employers of 2016 in February of this year.
