Letter: Simple Living Comunity Guild coming to the library

Morinville Community Library is offering a new free program this spring called Simple Living Community Guild, facilitated by Sherri Morrison, who is an Organic Master Gardener and Permaculture Designer. The idea behind the program is to inspire the community to live a simplified life which will lead to the benefits of saving money, reducing stress, strengthening families and caring for the environment.

The meetings are intended to be light-hearted and relaxed, allowing community members to engage in themed talks, a Q & A session, and social time. There will be a ‘Swap and Share’ table set up for individuals to bring in items that are in good, usable, condition. Suggested swapping items are: seeds, craft supplies, clothing, small household items, plant cuttings, books, etc.

The topics for Simple Living will cater to all interests, such as lowering your food bill, reducing household water usage, composting, vermicomposting, recycling and repurposing, fermenting and food preservation, container food growing, making homemade cleaners and personal care items, amongst many others.

The first session is called ‘Grow Your Groceries’ and will focus on planning for a successful growing season using permaculture design strategies. Individuals will learn how to reduce their food bill, improve their health, and care for the earth. Some of the topics that may be discussed are: how to choose and prepare the best site for a garden, how to plan for water and fertility, choosing what to grow, mulching, “pest” prevention, season extension, plus more.

The Simple Living Community Guild will take place every second Wednesday, and every fourth Tuesday, from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM in the Morinville Community Library program room. The program dates for next April are the 13th and 26th.
