Obituary Notice: NORRIS, Keith

Norris, Keith
April 14, 1944 – April 1, 2016

It is with a smile that we remember an amazing husband, father, grampa and bampy, Keith Norris.

Keith was a volunteer with several organizations in Morinville after retiring from a career with the Teamsters.

An outspoken advocate for the underdog, Keith was always willing to lend a hand and a voice when needed.
Keith’s immediate family consisted of his wife Elaine, son Gareth and partner Trish, daughter Samantha and partner Cary, grandson Nico and granddaughters Gwyneth and Tia.

Those fortunate enough to know Keith know the void left behind with his passing. He has left us all with a lifetime of wonderful memories.

The family will be honouring Keith’s wishes and going out for a curry in lieu of a funeral! He asked that each person remember and celebrate his life in their own fashion at their own time.

If you are able, please make a donation in his name to either the Stollery Children’s Hospital, the Alberta Children’s hospital or your local SPCA.

  2. It is with great regret that I learned Friday morning of the passing of Morinville resident and active community member Keith Norris.

Readers of the Morinville News will recognize Keith’s name as one that has appeared in our publication many times over the years.
In addition to being Chair of the Morinville Public Library Board, Keith Norris was a tireless volunteer giving freely of his time and talent to many groups and causes in this community, including The Friends of the Morinville Public Library, Sturgeon Victim Services and Morinville Citizens on Patrol to name a few.

Norris was a giant of a man with one of the gentlest souls I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. A proud Welshman who loved this country, his family, his community, and dogs. Any dog so far as I can tell.

I’ve met very few men of his calibre and I would argue there are few men of his calibre walking this earth today. Those who knew him in life speak highly of his character and how he put service to others above his own needs. Keith will be missed by those who had the pleasure to spend even the smallest amount of time walking beside him.

  4. Thank you Stephen for making a difficult situation so much easier. Obviously I am biased when I say my Dad was so much more than a great Dad, reading your words validates the man he was to me. Cheers, Gareth.

  5. Rest in Peace Keith our condolence to the family you will be miss

  6. Whether it was our years together on the Library Board or working with the Friends of the Library, Keith could be counted on to either to provide strong leadership or help out the community whenever it was needed. I echo what Stephen said, in that I have not known many people as giving of their time as Keith and he will be missed in the many areas he touched. I’m proud to have known him and considered him a friend.

  7. This saddens me greatly. What a wonderful man Keith is. I remember him best for his community spirit and sense of humour.

  8. So sad and my heart goes out to his family, Keith was a great man in so many ways, I will miss his hugs and the kiss he would give me on the forehead each time our paths would cross.

  9. My family and I will miss your contagious smiles and war stories. You will never be forgotten, you’ve made too much of an impression.

  10. I was fortunate to be your friend and was happy to see you a couple days before your passing. Will miss you at A&W for coffee and OJ.

  11. I worked with Keith for years, one of the finest people you could ever meet.

  12. Keith, you were my buddy for nigh on 60 years. There’s now a place that can never be filled.
We’ll be drinking to your memory tomorrow at the Hanbury Arms in Caerleon.
There may be a few sniffles too.
    Be seeing you again,one day.

    • Raise your glasses high Kenny, Keith loved you so much and you were always a part of his stories. We knew him for the better part of 50 years and will never forget that gentle , sweet man. god bless his wonderful Welsh friends.

  13. Words cannot express the sorrow we feel with Keith’s passing. He was a dear friend to everyone he met. Keith worked hard behind the scenes for the Chamber of Commerce. He wanted us to succeed and came into the office at least three times a week. He was a great treasurer and genuinely wanted to assist Monique where he could. We worked hard with the Business Directory as well as our other projects. He was there for me whenever I needed him and he enjoyed sitting on the board where he could make an impact. Keith, with his gentle humour, got his point across loud and clear even though he was not loud. He was a strong advocate for all small businesses and truly understood what our Chamber of Commerce stood for.
Keith even manned a hole at our golf tournament. I know that many of you enjoyed having a shot with him that day.
Keith was a warrior! He fought for everyone who needed his help whether it was within his Teamster’s Union family, COPS, Morinville Library, Sturgeon Victim Services,Traffic advisory and the Chamber of Commerce or people he knew. He was a strong volunteer and this town will miss him greatly. Keith will never be forgotten!
We did raise a pint in Keith’s memory – we, too, know that it would be what he wanted. No fanfare, simply a toast to a good man!. A true Welshman to the end. (Keith and my grandfather were born in the same Welsh town so I certainly understood his humour. DM)
    Our condolences to Keith’s family.
Diane, Manager, Morinville & District Chamber of Commerce
