École Notre Dame Elementary School Vice Principal Lisa Kleparchuk has been hanging posters for the Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools Development & Peace Fun Run to be held May 27. The event, which features distances of 1.6 and 5 kilometres, will be set up through the Running Room. There will be a warm-up program by former MCHS graduate Justin Ng.

The event is open to everyone and is hosted by Notre Dame and Georges H. Primeau School. The two schools have been raising funds as part of the school division’s goal to build a school in the Philipines.

The early bird deadline for the run is Apr. 18 and all 5 km registrations include a tech t-shirt. But the shirt is not guaranteed after the May 7 registration deadline. Those doing the 1.6 km run can buy one online.

The 5 km run is a timed event with the top five finishers at each grade level receiving medals.

“This is a fundraiser for Development and Peace, said Kleparchuk. “As a school, we decided to host a run to encourage our students to be healthy and active, as well as support a project that we are working on.”

Pledge forms are available at the schools, and there will be prize incentives for those raising $50, and $100 values. They are currently in need of donations, either items or money for prizes for those participants raising more than $100.

They also require volunteers for the event. For more information contact Lisa Kleparchuk at 780-939-4020 or by email lkleparchuk@gsacrd.ab.ca. To volunteer contact Nadine Trenchard at natrenchard@gsacrd.ab.ca.

Participants can register online at runningroom.com. The event can be found by looking under RACES and searching with either Alberta, the date or the name of the run.RACES and searching with either Alberta, the date or the name of the run.
