Loops for the Troops on this weekend

by Morinville News Staff

Signing up for this weekend’s Loops for the Troops, taking place at Edmonton Garrison on Canadian Forces Day, will give athletes a running tour of CFB Edmonton as well as an opportunity to assist the Edmonton Garrison Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC).

The fun run and walk takes place Sunday, June 5, 2016, and will feature a military mile, a five-kilometre fun run and walk, a 10-km road race and a half marathon.

Organizers of this year’s event say Loops for the Troops was developed through a unique partnership between the family of a local fallen soldier (Cpl Bryce Keller M.M.V), CFB Edmonton and the MFRC. It is dedicated to all of our Canadian Soldiers, their families, and to those Soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country, both at home and abroad.

“Edmonton has such incredible support for the military. This race offers participants a scenic tour of the Garrison, something they may not often have the chance to see,” said Angela Duckworth, senior communications coordinator, Edmonton Garrison Military Family Resource Centre. “The event raises funds that will allow us to maintain, expand and develop programs and services that support military families of CFB Edmonton.”

All proceeds from the event are donated to the Edmonton Garrison MFRC to support local programs and services, and Duckworth is hoping people will come out and support the event.

“The event takes place each year on Canadian Armed Forces Day, a day which offers an opportunity to thank our military for their service and dedication to Canada,” she said. “Participants will enjoy the military vehicle displays as well as a pancake breakfast.”

Those wanting to register for the event can do so by visiting www.runningroom.com or contact the MFRC at (780) 973-4011 ext. 6300.

The event takes place at the Edmonton Garrison Lecture Training Facility, Building 185.
