Olympics come to Morinville for one day

A downtown parking lot doubled as an Olympic venue Thursday afternoon for some MuniWare employees. The staff decided to take advantage of Olympic spirit to do a little team building.

Employees represented Canada, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Jamaica, Mexico, Iceland, Kyrgyzstan, and Jagrnam, the latter a fictitious nation inspired by Jägermeister.

The representative countries competed in MuniWare sports, including rowing with office chairs, Javelin using pool props, pie-plate discus, a camel carry with a water bottle, and darts aimed at a photo of company CEO Brandi Whiting.

Whiting said the Office Olympics was a team building event and the first time the company had done an Olympic event.

“This is our first year, so we are hoping to host 2018 Winter Office Olympics and keep the tradition moving forward,” she said. “Next time we want to invite some other local businesses to compete against us.”

The inaugural event ran for three hours and was punctuated by some food and refreshments.

The winning nations were not available by our press deadline.
