by Morinville News Staff

The body of an adult male located in a rural area near the intersection of Township Road 540 and Rural Route 263 Tuesday is being investigated as a homicide.

Police attended the location Tuesday morning and cordoned off the area to conduct a thorough examination of the scene and remove the body.

An autopsy conducted Wednesday at the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton determined the manner of death was homicide. Police have not yet determined the identity of the deceased man.

RCMP say they have ensured that all required resources have been made available to move the investigation forward. Members from the RCMP’s Edmonton-based Major Crimes Unit (MCU) have taken over the investigation with assistance from the Forensic Identification Section (FIS) as well as members from the RCMP detachments in Morinville and St. Albert. In addition, assistance is being received from the Edmonton Police Service.

Police are not releasing additional details or comments but have committed to releasing new information as it becomes available.
