Highway 2 collision causes life-threatening injuries

Aug. 22 update: The Morinville RCMP were advised that the 36-year-old male driver of the motorcycle involved in the collision on August 19th succumb to his injuries in hospital on August 21st, 2016.

Morinville RCMP continue to investigate.

A man was airlifted to hospital Friday afternoon after a collision on Highway 2.

Morinville RCMP and emergency services responded to a serious two motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck on Highway 2 near Township Road 564 in Sturgeon County around 4:45 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Police say the northbound motorcycle struck the pickup truck attempting to make a u-turn on the highway.

As a result of the collision, the male driver of the motorcycle was airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance with serious life-threatening injuries. The male driver of the pickup was assessed and treated on scene by emergency service personnel.

Morinville RCMP and an RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate.

No further details have been provided by RCMP at this time.
