Oktoberfest was held Saturday at the MCCC. The afternoon events included the Edmonton Dachshund Social Club and dog races, vehicles on display from the Edmonton Vintage Volkswagen Association, and accordion music by Dianne Tebby. The evening started with a German dinner followed by entertainment from The Emeralds.

The GHP Invitational Volleyball was held Saturday at the MCHS gym for the boys and at Georges H Primeau gym for the girls’ teams. Participants included Primeau, Guthrie, Gibbons, Clyde, Dapp and from St Albert Tache School, Fowler and Vincent J. Maloney.
The Boys Game ended with Richard S. Fowler Catholic Junior High School in 1st place and Primeau in 2nd followed by Clyde. The standings for the Girls team was not known when posted.

The Morinville Community Library Jail & Bail fundraiser was held Saturday night at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. Morinville’s most wanted during the Oktoberfest celebrations seeking $200 each in bail money were Fire Chief Brad Boddez, Ron Cust, Councillor Fitzgerald, Councillor Turner, Mayor Holmes and an effigy of Councillor Dafoe. The make-shift jail was set up in the foyer from 6-8 pm with a team of library supporters collecting bail money to be donated to the library programs and services. Councillors Dafoe and Ladouceur were on previous commitments and not able to partake.

Orange Shirt Day took place in Morinville schools and throughout the country Friday. The date for Orange Shirt Day was chosen because it is that time of year when children were taken from their homes and placed in residential schools. It is communities coming together in a spirit of reconciliation and hope because every child matters.

Musee Morinville Museum Operations Attendant Donna Garrett was adding touches to the display at the museum. Garrett was wearing orange to honour and bring awareness to the experiences of residential school survivors. Albertans commemorated Orange Shirt Day on Friday, a day for Albertans to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and provide hope for generations of children.

Partners in Protection

Tamzen McNeil got to try on a Peace Officer’s hat Saturday for the Partners in Protection event. The Morinville Fire Department, Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) set up at No-Frills parking lot to let residents see a bit of what they do.
