by Morinville News Staff

The Morinville Jets played a hat trick of games last week, losing once in regular play, and twice in overtime to rack up two points for their troubles. The club heads into the week with a 2-1-3 record six games into the season.

The Morinville Jets suffered their first true loss of the CJHL 2016-2017 season Sept. 28. After an OT loss and back-to-back wins, the Jets lost 6-3 to the North Edmonton Red Wings on the road Wednesday night.

Tyler Hagel picked up two of the Jets three goals Wednesday night. The third was pocketed by Lee Gadoury in the final minute of the middle frame.

The Jets took to the road Friday night to play the St. Albert Merchants at the Akinsdale Arena. The club fell 7-6 in OT.

After carrying a 4-1 lead in the opening frame with Hagel hauling in three of the four goals, the Jets frittered the lead away through a scoreless second period to trail the Merchants 5-4. The Jets came back two to one in the final period to push the contest into overtime and a shootout.

Unfortunately for the Jets, only one point was to be earned for their troubles.

Sunday night saw the Jets facing off against the Sherwood Park Knights on home ice. In that contest, the Jets once again fell in overtime, losing 4-3. The Jets trailed throughout the game, 1-0, 2-1, and catching up twice in the final frame to push it into overtime.

So far this season the Jets are averaging 4.17 goals per game in both the for and against category and leading the league in penalty minutes at 249.

The Jets play two road games this week – Friday night against the Beaumont Chiefs and Sunday night against Wetaskiwin.
