Kings drop second Saturday nighter in a row

by Morinville News Staff

It was a game of catch-up for the Morinville Kings Saturday night against the visiting Whitecourt Wild. The problem for the Kings is they never caught up long enough to pull ahead.

The Kings fell 6-5 to the Wild, their second loss in as many outings, and now sit in third place with a 3-2-0 record early into the season.

Saturday night’s efforts left the Kings trailing 1-0 after 20 and trailing 2-0 through most of the second period. The Kings got their first goal of the game with 6.33 left int the middle frame and tied it up at 2-2 with 2:41 left on the clock. Sadly for the Kings, the Wild scored three seconds after the puck drop to end the period leading the Kings 3-2. The scoring volleyed for the final 20 with the Wild building a two-goal lead at one point and the Kings catching up to within one of pushing it to overtime.

The Kings play two games this week, a home-ice effort against Westlock Friday night at 8:30 and on the road against the Rocky Rams Saturday night.
