Morinville police investigating motor vehicle fatality

Morinville RCMP and emergency services responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 44, 23 kilometers northwest of Morinville Tuesday morning about 9:45 a.m.

Police say the driver and lone occupant of a pickup truck lost control while travelling southbound on Highway 44. As a result, the truck entered the northbound lane where it a northbound, pick-up truck struck the vehicle.

The driver of the southbound truck succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the northbound pickup truck was transported by Ambulance to an Edmonton-area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

North and southbound lanes of Highway 44 were affected until 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon while RCMP conducted their investigation and crews removed debris.

Speed and alcohol are not considered by police to have been factors in the incident. Road conditions at the time were slippery with ice in sections.

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time. Sturgeon County Victim Services is providing assistance to family and friends.

Morinville RCMP along with an RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate.
