Patsy Cline tribute well attended

Singer/songwriter Lisa Brokop has been performing for more than 20 years, much of that her original material. Saturday she brought the songs of music legend Patsy Cline to the stage of the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. More than 300 came out for the catered dinner and show, the first of the centre’s Live at the CCC adult concert series.

After cutting several albums and winning several awards, Brokop decided it was the time in her career to do something different from the contemporary/commercial part of the music business.
Prior to Saturday’s show, she told Morinville News she had wanted to go back to her roots and sing the songs that were influential when she got started.

Those songs included those of Patsy Cline, a woman who was one of the most successful performers of the 20th century, but whose career was cut short when she was killed in a plane crash at the age of 30. It is her legacy as one of the great vocalists that appealed to Brokop.
“She had a way of presenting a song with such raw emotion,” Brokop said. “She can make you believe that the lyric she is singing is really happening.”

Dufflebag Theatre’s presentation of A Christmas Carol is the next act to take the MCCC stage. They will appear Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. during the Lite Up the Nite Festival. Tickets are $12 each or $35 for a family of four.
