Frank Burdzy, The President and CEO of Champion Petfoods, one of Morinville’s largest employers, gave a detailed presentation to Council during their monthly Committee of the Whole meeting Nov. 16, sharing the recent successes and challenges his rapidly expanding pet food company has been facing.

Burdzy assured Council and residents that “Morinville will always be our home” and that they have no plans to leave Morinville, following recent rumors about the plant leaving. They have plans to invest in 30-plus new Morinville employees and are currently considering expanding by adding a new factory comparable to their Kentucky facility, potentially elsewhere in Northern Alberta. The Morinville kitchen operation could be repurposed for a different company line.

Mayor Lisa Holmes acknowledged that Morinville likely would not have been able to provide a factory site for Champion that would meet their high needs for utility access and space.
