New online resource provides historical MLA profiles

Albertans wanting to know who served in the First Legislature or what areas they served from, or how they did in previous elections can now be found on the Member Profiles listed on assembly.ab.ca.

The government has updated the site to include profiles on all 905 individuals who have served as MLAs since Alberta’s first general election in 1905. The information is located under the Members of the Legislative Assembly tab on the site’s homepage.

“What we now have is a comprehensive online resource that details the legislative service of every MLA that has been elected in Alberta’s history,” said Honourable Robert E. Wanner, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in a release Friday. “The information has been verified using a variety of authoritative sources; anyone with an interest in parliamentary history or Alberta’s history, in general, will find these Profiles useful and interesting.”

Legislature Library staff referenced a variety of sources to compile the information, including historical Journals of the Legislative Assembly, newspapers, and archives.

The information can be viewed by Legislature, Member name, or constituency. Results can be downloaded in PDF format.
