Marvelous Moms looking to help others

by Stephen Dafoe

The Morinville Marvelous Moms are once again taking up donations for families in need this season, something they do in conjunction with many other local agencies and community groups.
Organizer Sarah Hall said the MMM have been collecting applications for families in need since mid-November but hadn’t had many come in until this past week.

“They are arriving in our inbox steadily now,” Hall said. “We’ve cleared 22 of those families with Midstream [Support Society] so far, with another 12 right now waiting.”

The MMM have donation bins set up at the Bistro di Madre Piccola, Higher Grounds, Animal Wellness Vet Clinic, The Flower Stop & Gift Shop and Curves where people can drop off donations for the cause.

“We are expecting our normal large wave of donations to hit us next week,” Hall said hopefully. “We are wrapping and delivering to families next Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 17 and 18)
Hall and her fellow volunteers have been pleased with the community support so far. “We’ve had Champion Petfoods supply us with some turkeys again this year. We applied for and received a community grant totalling $2,500, which we are so grateful for,” she said, adding Jandel Homes was making a $3000 donation Friday morning.

“This company will be building in Morinville next year and do a fantastic sounding program called ‘Fill a House” in places like Grande Prarie and Acheson, where they are currently situated,” Hall said. “They have such plans as to continue their philanthropy here as well.
Additionally, Morinville Public School is collecting all the food for nine to ten families, one family for each grade.
