by Morinville News Staff

The Morinville Junior B Jets and Morinville Senior AA Kings both enjoyed wins over the weekend. The Jets took down the Sherwood Park Knights 6-2 Friday night, and the Kings upset Bonnyville 9-5 Saturday night. Both clubs’ games were road games.

Friday night’s outing to Sherwood Park saw the Jets pulling ahead by a wide margin in the final frame. Starting with a 2-1 lead to end the first, the Jets found themselves sitting tied 2-2 heading into the third. The Jets popped on four in the last period, including two shorthanded and one power play goal to earn the win at 6-2.

Saturday night’s road trip for the Kings was a steady build from a 3-2 first-period lead, both sides doubling their tallies to 6-4 to end the second. The final frame saw the Kings outscore Bonnyville by a margin of three to one for a 9-5 finish.

For the Jets, Friday night’s win was the eighth consecutive victory in a stellar season that’s seen the Jets rise to first place in the Capital Junior Hockey League’s West Division with an impressive 17-4-4 record. The club has 13 games left in the CJHL’s 38-game season.

For the Kings, the top of the NCHL charts is still within reach, a point’s reach in fact. The Kings are 11-3-0 with four games left in the NCHL’s 16-game season.
