Champion helps stow-away cat

by Morinville News Staff

A cat found snow covered and frost-bitten underneath the engine deck of an Edmonton-bound CN train by Conductor Brad Slater Sunday has received assistance from Champion Petfoods.

After taking the cat for veterinary care, Slater decided to bring the pet home until it’s rightful owners could be found.

Champion Petfoods has decided to donate a year’s supply of food to help Slater look after Q-199. The cat’s new name derives from the trains ID number.

“We’re a dedicated team of passionate pet lovers ourselves, so when we heard about Q-199 and Brad’s compassion, we knew we wanted to do something to help out,” said Michelle Granger, Marketing Director at Champion Petfoods in a release Tuesday.

Q-199 joins three other cats Slater and his wife own. Slater was appreciative of the gift.

“I’m so gracious and thankful; it’s a great product,” Slater said. “He’s going to be big and strong now, he’s 6.9 pounds, so I’m sure this is going to get him nice and big for the winter and give him some of his energy back.”

The owner of the rescued cat has not yet been located; however, Champion has committed to provide the rightful owners with a year’s supply of food once they come forward to collect Q-199.
