Jets take Hawks in overtime

by Morinville News Staff

The Jets earned another two points Sunday night in a penalty-loaded contest with the Fort Saskatchewan Hawks. Sunday’s 5-4 OT victory for the Jets gives them an 18-5-4 record this season and the top spot in the West Division, two points and a game ahead of the North Edmonton Red Wings.

The Jets trailed 1-0 for most of the first period, having given up the goal to the Hawks on a power-play advantage midway through the period. But Lee Gadoury picked up an unassisted contribution with six seconds left on the clock to tie it 1-1.

The second period was more opportunity for the Hawks to capitalize on the power-play. Two of their three goals were pocketed while the Jets had a man in the box. Riley Van Brabant picked up the Jets only goal of the frame unassisted to give the club a 4-2 trailing finish.

But the Jets drove it to overtime in the third with a power-play goal from Joshua Perrott and a shorthanded goal from Brett Dubuc.

Jorden Rooke, assisted by Michael Wolosyhn and Lee Gadoury got the game-winning goal on a power-play advantage with 43 seconds left in OT.

The Jets have one more game this calendar year – a Tuesday night home-ice game against the Regals at 8:30 p.m.
