Come-and-go open house coming up for Municipal Development Plan revisions

by Morinville News Staff with files from Tristan Turner

Morinville may be seeing a major revision to its 2012 Municipal Development Plan and the public is invited to a come-and-go open house Wednesday, Aug. 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre.

According to the Town of Morinville, the purpose of the Municipal Development Plan (MDP) Update Project
is “to ensure the MDP aligns with current planning documents and objectives and to incorporate findings from the Mobility Strategy into its policies.”

Council gave First Reading of Bylaw 10/2017 at their July 11 meeting, the necessary first step before a public hearing can be held in August.

The review is intended to update the bylaw ahead of a regional review of MDPs in the region. Greg Hofmann, Morinville’s Director of Planning and Development, informed Council back in July that there would be an extensive public review process for the new legislation ahead of Second and Third Reading.

The revisions in the First Reading of the new bylaw, before any potential amendments, are available to read in full in Council’s July 11 Agenda package. The document is more than 100 pages long.

PUBLISHER’S NOTE: The Morinville News will be closed for company summer shut down from July 31 to Aug. 7, inclusive. As such, we will have a limited number of stories online this week.
