The Morinville Fire Department is hosting the 19th Annual Sturgeon County Firefighter Olympics Saturday, Aug. 12, drawing in teams from Morinville, Legal, Gibbons, Bon Accord, Calahoo and Namao for a day of competition. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. behind the Ray McDonald Sports Center on 104 Street.

Each municipality’s firefighter team will include five members competing in activities with themes related to the job. Each team will be competing in the hopes of becoming the 2017 Olympic Champions.

“These types of activities give a chance for the town and county departments to get together outside of an emergency situation as we do work together as mutual aid partners,” said Morinville Fire Chief Brad Boddez in a release Tuesday. “It is nice to build those relationships through fun activities and team-building exercises.”

Each year the County’s Firefighter Olympics are hosted by a different municipality within Sturgeon County.

The public is welcome to attend the event Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
