Alexander holds Treaty Day celebrations

Alexander First Nation held their Treaty Day Celebrations on Thursday, Aug. 17 at the Alexander First Nation Grounds.

The schedule included the Pipe Ceremony, Opening Prayer, the Treaty Day Annuity Pay Out, Horse Shoe Tournament, Elders Bingo, Bouncy Houses, Kiddy Rides and Community BBQ, Jigging Contest, Youth Singing contest, entertainment by Harry Davies and Company, a Partners / Industry set-up, draws and other activities.

The Inauguration of the Chief and Council took place in the afternoon and the elected officials signed their oath at the end of the ceremony.

The duly elected are Chief Kurt Burnstick, Audra Arcand, Marcel Paul, Marty Arcand, Cheryl Savoie, Anita Arcand and Craig Yellowdirt.

This is a second term for Chief Burnstick, Audra Arcand, and a first for Anita Arcand.

  1. Marty Arcand and Craig Yellowdirt were also re-elected. Alexander First Nation signed Treaty No.6 on August 21 1877. August 21 2017 will mark 140 years of Alexander First Nation being a part of Treaty No.6
