5th Annual Oktoberfest fast approaching

by Morinville News Staff

The contribution and rich heritage of German immigrants who came to Canada, Alberta, and specifically Morinville will be celebrated with the 5th Annual Oktoberfest Celebration at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre Sept. 30, 2017.

Doors open and cocktails will be available at 5 p.m., dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and live entertainment will take place at 7:30 p.m.

Similar to previous years, the evening of entertainment and food is free of charge, offering attendees the opportunity to enjoy the sights, sounds, and cuisine of Germany. German beers and wines will be available for purchase.

Dinner will be catered by the Green Bean Coffee House & Bistro. Chef Doug Adsit and his team will be serving German Pork Stew with kraut potato vegetables and bratwurst, pretzel dinner buns, German chocolate cake with kirsch cherries, as well as tea, coffee, water, and juice.

“This event is always well attended, and we hope to have a full house again this year,” said Kathleen Ducharme, Town of Morinville Events and Culture Programmer, in a release Thursday.

Entertainment for the Saturday night event will be Alberta based Oompah band – European Touch. Children’s activities will include German-themed colouring sheets.

“Oktoberfest is one of the activities planned to celebrate Alberta Culture Days, which takes place September 29 to October 1,” Ducharme said. “This event is a great opportunity to take the night off from cooking dinner and enjoy German culture, with food, entertainment, and friends.”

The Town is encouraging attendees to dress in their best German attire.

Tickets were available at the Active Living Fair Thursday night, and are available at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre Box Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Although tickets are free, only a limited number are available.
