Town has two waste diversion events planned this month

by Morinville News Staff

The Skyline Ball Diamonds (10510-107 Street) will once again play host to the Reuse It or “Loose It” event on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items can be dropped off until 2:30 p.m.

The event is an opportunity for residents to let loose no longer wanted but still usable items by bringing them to a central location for other residents to browse through and take home for free.

The town says the volunteer-run event lessens the community’s environmental impact by sending less to the landfill. It also gives local families access to items they
may not otherwise be able to afford.

The Town also provides a removal service for residents with disability or mobility issues.

For more information call Public Works at 780-939-2590.

Also on tap the same day is the Household Hazardous Waste Roundup running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sturgeon County Centre (9313-100 Street.)

Morinville is partnering with Sturgeon County to host the annual event, offering a free of
charge opportunity to divert hazardous substances from the landfill.

The two municipalities are encouraging respective residnets to take advantage of the event, ridding their homes of hazardous materials requiring special handling,
disposing of them in an environmentally friendly manner.

Waste includes products that are corrosive, flammable, explosive, toxic
or poisonous.

Participants are asked to keep all materials in their original containers and place in a leak-pfoof package if cracked of broken.
