Library inviting public to speed date with candidates

The Town of Morinville Public Library Board has announced it is hosting a special event on Oct. 3 for all candidates running in the Morinville municipal election. This event takes place in the Program Room at the Morinville Public Library, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is open to all members of the public.

The event, called ‘Speed-date a Candidate’, is meant to give residents a chance to
speak one-on-one, in a casual, low-pressure atmosphere, with those hoping to lead our
Town’s local government over the next four years.

Each candidate who attends the event will sit on one side of a table, and on the
opposite side will sit a resident; this is a great opportunity for people to get to know
the candidates and to get their questions answered. A bell will chime after a few
minutes, at that point each resident will move down one spot to speak with the next
candidate in line.

“Candidates and the Morinville Library have the same goal, in that we both want to
keep our community engaged,” said Jennifer Anheliger, the Chair of the Town of
Morinville Public Library Board. “We wanted to provide a place where residents could
engage with their local candidates and the incumbents, where it would be comfortable
and casual. What better place to do that than in the heart of our community, at the
library.”

“Our library and librarians are a transformational force. We are the one place in Town
where people can walk through the doors, regardless of age and walk of like, and
immediately be engaged,” added Anheliger. “We operate with the needs and values
of our community as our priority because we are in love with this community that we
serve.”

Residents do not need to pre-register to attend and can drop-in at any time between
7:00pm and 8:30pm.
