Morinville – The official Swearing In Ceremony for Morinville’s recently elected Mayor Lisa Holmes and Council members Nicole Boutestein, Stephen Dafoe, Brennan FitzGerald, Rob Ladouceur, Gord Putnam and Barry Turner was held in town chambers the evening of Oct. 29. Holmes revealed great expectations for this new council, explaining: “Our Council will begin a fairly in-depth series of orientation meetings over the next few weeks. We will be touring each of the town departments to meet staff and get familiar with processes and procedures. Our focus will be on getting up to speed with the financial processes as our first priority will be working on the 2014 budget.”… […]

Ladouceur and Holmes win in election recounts

Morinville – The Morinville 2013 civic election saw candidates beating out their competitors by only a handful of votes and not many residents will appreciate the close race as much as newly elected Mayor Lisa Holmes and town council member Rob Ladouceur. The initial count done on Monday, Oct. 21, provided tight results with Holmes ahead of opponent Sheldon Fingler by eighteen votes. Because of the close difference, Fingler’s agent immediately requested a recount. Jackie Luker made it into the sixth and final council seat ahead of Ladouceur by two votes and because the difference between the candidates was within five votes, an automatic recount was scheduled.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, the town conducted both recounts. Holmes retained her victory with 1034 votes over Fingler’s. However, the results did not favour Luker who received 684 votes to Ladouceur’s 689… […]

Morinville goes to the polls

Morinville – On Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, polls opened and residents voted in Morinville’s latest civic election. With an estimated 5,800 eligible voters, turnout reached 41 per cent, which is 2 per cent lower than the 2010 election.

There were 2,356 votes cast for mayor and at 10:33 p.m. the count revealed that Lisa Holmes had the highest number with 1,034 votes, Sheldon Fingler following close behind her with 1,016 votes.
