Jacob Middlekamp is one more candidate to throw his hat in to run for Councillor of Division 5 in Sturgeon County.
Middlekamp has lived in Sturgeon County for 20, having moved from the Netherlands in 1997. He has a farm 6 kilometres north of Gibbons and has a quail and duck operation.
The Sturgeon County mayoralty election is now a contest following a decision by Alanna Hnatiw to challenge incumbent Tom Flynn, who announced his re-election bid in June.
Hnatiw is one of the founders of Sturgeon United Residents For Effective Accountable Leadership (SUREAL), a group that has been critical of the current council’s handling of county issues and pressed it on expenditures and organizational practices.

Morinville Councillor Barry Turner has announced he will officially seek the Town’s top job in next fall’s municipal election.
In a press release circulated on June 28, the councillor said, “my campaign will focus on the key planks of service, engagement, and transparency.” Turner has 16-years of service on Council behind him and has been a resident of the Town for nearly three decades.
