A 50th-anniversary celebration needs a cake, and the Morinville Community Library is hoping to find a baker to craft a custom cake for that half century milestone celebration later this year on Sept. 9.

Chief Superintendent Jerry Scott, District Commander for Central Alberta District, is pleased to announce that Sergeant Dale Kendall of the Stony Plain Detachment will be taking up an interim position as the Detachment Commander of Morinville Detachment. The Town of Morinville was consulted in the selection of Sergeant Kendall to fill this role.

The government says the Act to Strengthen Municipal Government proposes practical changes to help municipalities build stronger and more sustainable communities for Alberta families. The MGA is Alberta’s second-largest piece of legislation. The government is proposing changes to the Municipal Government Act (MGA) they say reflect the input received from municipalities, community organizations, Indigenous groups, school boards, small businesses, industry and the public. This data was collected since the government released a discussion guide last November.

Morinville is offering two opportunities to find eggs in the lead up to Easter. One will be conducted for children, the other for older egg hunters. Sobeys Morinville owners Shaun and Susie and Shaun Thompson and their staff will be hiding 10 eggs for seven days, starting Sunday. The eggs numbered 1 to 10 have a corresponding Easter dinner prize. Shoppers finding the egg only have to take it to customer service to claim their free item.

Morinville and Alberta experienced a first Thursday night; the opening of the first sport-specific Hall of Fame dedicated to an amateur League in Alberta. The opening of the North Central Alberta Baseball League's Hall of Fame at the Musée Morinville Museum coincided with the league's 50th anniversary.
