Column – Joe Morinville

Seems like this election campaign has been going on forever even though it hasn’t even really started yet. Nomination Day is Sept. 23 and that is when the candidates really become candidates. But that hasn’t stopped those looking to run talking to the papers and the people on the Facebook about what they will do if they are elected… […]

Editorial: Perhaps it’s time to look at community programming

Deputy Mayor Lisa Holmes has put out an interesting pie chart as part of her social media campaign. The chart, found on her campaign site LisaHolmes.ca, offers a breakdown of how your tax dollar is spent.

Without a detailed breakdown the pie slices are merely numbers that may look large to many of us depending on our personal experience and perspective. […]

Summer camps have kept the kids busy with innovative and creative weekly themes. Editorial: Maybe youth do not want something to do

There has been considerable talk already in the early days of Election 2013 about finding something for youth in the community to do to assuage the horrors of teen and tween boredom, particularly in summer, a time when there is no real structured activity to consume their idle hands and minds… […]

Progressive views: Cannabis dissonance

By Tristan Turner

Recently the newly elected leader of the Federal Liberals, Justin Trudeau, said at a rally in Kelowna that he doesn’t support the decriminalization of marijuana. Instead, he clearly and excitedly stated, “I’m in favour of legalizing it, taxing it and regulating it.” In an interview later he clarified that is indeed his stance on the issue, despite his stance against legalization up to this point… […]

Editorial: Economic development is not a video game

SimCity is a video game introduced to the market in 1989 that has allowed gamers to be urban planners for the past quarter century. You start with a blank piece of undeveloped land, plop down some houses, some commercial lots and a road to connect the two areas, then sit back and watch people move in and begin to travel on the roads… […]

I was late getting my column in this week because it is harder to write about stuff going on around Town when nothing is going on around town. You can sure tell summer is here. The only thing that seems to be moving is the moving vans. It got me to thinking about what folks who move here might get to thinking about or asking questions about in their first couple of weeks here… […]

Editorial: And now for something completely different

When Monty Python’s John Cleese stepped in front of the camera to announce “And now for something completely different,” viewers knew they could expect something completely absurd was about to happen. We hope you will not see absurdity in what we are launching next week… […]

I would like to personally thank everyone that put in the time and effort to respond to the Municipal Waste Management Questionnaire that was included in the last round of Utility Bills. The results of this survey will be publicly provided to Council in the form of a report where the information collected will be used during our budget process for Council to provide direction in moving forward with a full organics program potentially in 2014. The deadline for this survey is July 31st… […]

Progressive Views: Cabinet Shuffle

By Tristan Turner

We’ve arrived at the halfway point of Stephen Harper’s Majority rule, and the prime minister and his beleaguered government are more unpopular in the polls than ever. So, he’s understandably tried to hit the ‘reset button’ on all of his minister’s past blunders by shuffling his ministers in and out of different portfolios to suit his agenda… […]

Column – Joe Morinville

There is a lot of weird stuff on the Internet these days, but lately I’ve took to looking up Weird News on the Google. It reminds me of when you used to be able to buy The Weekly World News at Sobeys before they stopped printing them. Those people always told the truth no matter who they had to lie about to do it… […]
