Morinville gains international chef

Morinville – A new restaurateur has come to town, bringing with him a quarter century of experience as a chef. Don Bom Buwala recently opened Don’s Bar & Bistro in the former Sheldon’s Fine Dining location on 100 Ave. and said he is looking forward to serving his fare to Morinville diners, particularly his specialties – French cuisine, steak and seafood.

Santa and company coming to the garden

Sturgeon County – Santa, Mrs. Claus and a couple of their reindeer are scheduled to make a landing at First Choice Tree Nursery and Gardening Centre just outside of Morinville this weekend. The jolly old elf and his friends will be participating in Santa’s Summer Party from 1 to 4 p.m. this Saturday, all part of the gardening centre’s 4th Annual Christmas Sneak Peek, running July 16-18.

St. Albert RCMP looking for fall suspects

St. Albert – RCMP have released two photos of two suspects in two separate incidents that occurred in the city last fall.

The first unsolved crime dates back to October 7-8, 2009. A male suspect entered an unlocked truck parked in a Sheridan Drive driveway.

I remember when I moved to Morinville four years ago; 100 Ave. had two lanes, angled parking on both sides and plenty of drivers who were courteous enough to actually slow down and let you back out of that angled parking.

Morinville Blood Donor Clinic set for end of month

Morinville – Canadian Blood Services (CBS) are hoping Morinvillians will roll up their sleeves later this month when the blood donor clinic comes to town.

The summer clinic, sponsored by the Morinville Lions Club and Knights of Columbus, will be held July 27 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Seniors’ Rendez-Vous Centre on 104 St.

Province aids Thorhild County for spring fires

Edmonton – Thorhild County received some good news from the province July 8. Alberta will be sending $10 million Thorhild’s way under the province’s Municipal Wildfire Assistance Program (MWAP). The money is being granted to help Thorhild County recover from the costs of fighting the wildfire that hit the county last May.

Sturgeon County teen killed in quad accident

Westlock – A 15-year-old Sturgeon County teen died over the weekend after being thrown from the ATV she was a passenger on.

Ashton Parrish had been one of three teens riding a quad in the Spruce Island Lake area, north of Westlock. Westlock RCMP report that the quad left the road and went off the trail, ejecting all three teens.
