The Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation (JMMF) held its third annual Break Free Gala this past Saturday night, on October 28. The event was a success with having raised many tens of thousands of dollars which will ultimately help the organizations pay for its soon-to-be-built safe house in the Town of Morinville.

Bumper to Bumper/ Home Hardware presented a cheque for just shy of $6000 to the Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation Wednesday. The money raised came from registration fees for the vehicles, the hot dog stand (donated by Spiker Equipment) and t-shirt sales. Additional monies were generated from a 50/50 and birdhouse sales. The Town of Morinville is giving a piece of land to the Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation (JMMF) so that, eventually, that organization can build a women’s shelter there.
The property, whose location will be kept secret to protect victims, will also be serviced by the Town. […]

Morinville – Five years to the day after a Morinville woman was slain by her common law husband, a candle light vigil will be held in her memory and to raise awareness of domestic violence and the work the Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation (JMMF) is doing to help women in need. This young woman fled extreme abuse in her third trimester and was here on a temporary VISA in a country not her own. She had no resources, knew few and stumbled into our community… […]
