The Morinville Orijen Sabretooths Midget Girls were three for three in the opening week of spring league, after a 65-27 road win Tuesday night, the girls took to the road for back-to-back games at the Saville Centre in Edmonton Saturday.
The Morinville Junior B Jets and Morinville Senior AA Kings both enjoyed wins over the weekend. The Jets took down the Sherwood Park Knights 6-2 Friday night, and the Kings upset Bonnyville 9-5 Saturday night. Both clubs’ games were road games.
Champion Petfoods celebrated the opening of the company’s new research facility Friday with a significant investment in community innovation and success. The monies were distributed to five local groups, each seeking to improve the quality of life in Morinville through education, health, arts and culture, cooperation, collaboration, and innovation.
Thirteen-year-old Sturgeon County resident Brooke Froment is looking forward to a summer of basketball with Team Alberta’s U-14 team. The former Orijen Sabretooth and current MCHS Wolves team member was recently selected to represent Alberta in four competitions taking place this summer. Sixty girls tried out for twelve spots over three sessions, one in Calgary and two in Edmonton.
The Morinville Orijen Bantam Sabretooths followed their City Championship win with a road trip to Calgary on the weekend for provincials. The girls returned to town with silver and the honour of being the second-ranked team in the province.
