Fingler reflects on year as Rotary president

Rotary Club of Morinville President Sheldon Fingler has enjoyed his year of wielding the club’s gavel but says he is looking forward to getting back to being a rank-and-file member.

“I feel that when you sit up at the front, you sometimes lose touch with everything else that’s going on in the club,” Figler said, adding the Morinville club is an active one. “When you are sitting at the front you are more worried about following the rules and keeping things in line and covering all the bases. I don’t get to have as much fun as I like to.” […]

Fingler Rotary’s new president

Morinville resident Sheldon Fingler has assumed the Rotary Club of Morinville’s gavel. The local businessman took over the presidency of the service club from Brian Reed at the club’s July 8 breakfast meeting.

Fingler said he was motivated to join the Rotary Club two years ago out of respect for those pillars of the community who had built the club and the community.

Morinville Councillor reveals by-election campaign contributions

Morinville – One candidate in last summer’s municipal by-election told voters he supported local businesses, but disclosure information reveals he also had the financial support of one major local business. Councillor Sheldon Fingler has disclosed that Champion Petfoods donated $4,700 to his campaign bid for a seat on Council.

Under provincial legislation, all municipal candidates must disclose campaign donations within 90 days of the election. In response to a Morinville News inquiry ahead of that date, Fingler confirmed the local manufacturer donated the sum to his campaign, an amount $300 shy of the $5,000 maximum contribution allowed… […]

Chamber has new president and board

Morinville – The Morinville and District Chamber of Commerce held its General Annual Meeting Wednesday afternoon to elect its president, vice president and directors at large. Vice President Heather Folkins of Escape Travel was elected President of the business advocacy group by acclamation. President Sheldon Fingler stepped down as Chamber president but accepted the nomination and post of vice president. The Chamber will now have eight directors at large, an increase of one board member from 2010. Government funding to help Chamber attract tourists

Morinville – The province is sending $70,000 the Morinville and District Chamber of Commerce way, grant money from the government’s Department of Tourism, Parks and Recreation that the local business group will use to fund a Regional Tourism Action Plan (RTAP).

Chamber President Sheldon Fingler said he was pleased but not surprised to receive the funding announcement from Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock MLA Ken Kowalski last week.
