Seed cleaning plant victim of mischief

Morinville – While warmer weather has caused many seeds to break open and create new plants, the same weather seems to have brought out mischief makers who have targeted the Morinville Seed Cleaning Co-op plant on 100 Street. Morinville RCMP are reporting that the plant has been struck by vandals on several occasions beginning around the end of May.

Constable Yelena Avoine said that on one occasion the plant’s shed was broken into and the fire extinguisher that was stored there was emptied out into the shed. Additionally, the company’s storage bins were damaged and vandalized.

“When they report the incidents it’s always on the Monday,” Avoine said. “So we’re assuming it’s always occurring over the weekend and during late hours, probably after midnight or around that time.”

Since nothing has been reported stolen from the operation, Avoine believes whoever is involved is merely engaging in acts of vandalism.

RCMP are asking residents to note any suspicious activity at the Morinville Seed Cleaning co-op after business hours and to contact the detachment immediately.

Anyone with information about is asked to cal the Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4550 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
