Morinville – The Morinville Lions Club are gearing up for their annual charity golf tournament, 18 holes of golfing goodness to be held Aug. 21 at the Cardiff Golf and Country Club.
Proceeds from this year’s tournament will go to Camp He Ho Ha, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Camp Health, Hope and Happiness is a recreational facility for people with disabilities located in Seba Beach.
Lion Francis Fryters said the club is hoping to have approximately 60 golfers hitting the links this year, all helping to raise funds to support the approximately 750 disabled Albertans who make use of the camp each summer.
“The Lions from Alberta have sponsored that for quite a few years,” Fryters said,” adding that the non-profit camp is not government funded. “There is no cost for the families.”
Last year the Morinville Lions were able to raise $3,000 from the tournament to support Camp He Ho Ha, an amount Fryters would like to see increased this year.
“I think last year we had 44 golfers and 55 people for the dinner,” Fryters said. “I’d like to have 60 players if possible.”
The cost for the tournament is $100 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart and a steak barbecue dinner. The Lions club will also be selling mulligans at a cost of $5 each (maximum four per person) for those less-experienced golfers who want a bit of an edge.
But regardless of the skill level, Fryters said their will be registration prizes for everyone, as well as a major hole-in-one and 18 special hole prizes. Additionally, there will be a silent auction held throughout the day with the winners announced at the evening barbecue dinner; a feast that non-golfers can participate in at a cost of $25 per person.
Deadline for participation in this year’s tournament is Aug. 14. For more information on the tournament contact Francis Fryters at 780-939-3741.
