Sturgeon County – The appointment of six county residents to the Assessment Review Board was unanimously approved by Sturgeon County Council at its July 13 regular meeting. Joe Tetro, Frank Schoenberger, Anne Plante, Neil McDougal, Dianne Reid and John Bowes will begin serving this fall when assessment complaint hearings begin.

Under new province-wide legislation, municipalities are now required to have a Local Assessment Review Board (LARB) to hear complaints regarding residential properties with three or fewer dwelling units and farmland and a Composite Assessment Review Board (CARB) to hear all other matters.

Tetro, Schoenberger and Plante were appointed as members of the One Member and Three Member Local Assessment Review Boards and all six will serve on the Three Member Local Assessment Review Board. Tetro, Schoewnberger and McDougal will form the Three Member Composite Assessment Review Board.

Council heard that four of the six appointees have already completed the required four days of training and Bowes and Reid are both scheduled to take the training prior to the commencement of hearings this fall.

Under the new legislation, property owners have 60 days after receiving their assessment notices to file a complaint.
