Sturgeon County – While the line ups in stores selling school supplies is a sure indication that summer has more days behind it than ahead of it; the next 10 days offers area families a wide range of activities to take in within Sturgeon County.

Coronado fun day
The Coronado Hall is the place to gather this Sunday Aug. 8 for an afternoon of family activities. The community has gathered together a petting zoo, dunk tank, arts and crafts, clowns and other activities for children and families to enjoy. Proceeds from the fun-filled afternoon will go to the Coronado United Church. Cost of admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 12 and under. Coronado Hall is located at 23108 Twp. Rd. 570, 4 miles North of Gibbons on Hwy. 28, East on Twp. Rd 570.

Morinville magic show
Magician Brian Lehr will be appearing (and perhaps disappearing) at the Morinville Public Library Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. Anyone who has had the opportunity to see Mr. Lehr perform knows his act is top notch and suitable for the entire family. The Edmonton-based magician will be tying his show to this year’s Destination Jungle summer reading program theme. There is no cost for the performance.

Museum tour for seniors
The Gibbons Museum will be holding its annual Senior’s Day Aug. 11, featuring a tour of the museum facilities from 1 – 2:30 p.m. with refreshments to follow at the Dew Drop Inn from 2:30 – 4 p.m. Cost for the historical afternoon is $5 per person.

Best Garden deadline
Morinville gardeners looking to show off the fruits of their green thumbs and maybe get a little recognition in the process only have a few days left to enter the Town of Morinville’s Best Garden Competition. Deadline is Aug. 10 with judging Aug. 11. Forms are available at the Town of Morinville Offices.

Harvest Days ahead
Bon Accord will be holding its annual Harvest Days Aug. 13 – 15. The festival kicks off with a baseball tournament on the Friday night and launches into full gear Saturday with the Harvest Days Parade at 10 a.m. Once again this year the festival is bringing in Lord Strathcona’s Horse to put on a demonstration from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. on the Saturday. A complete schedule of the weekend’s events can be found here.

Turf tearin’ time
The Morinville and District Ag. Society is teaming up with the Sturgeon Agriplex Society to bring a lot of bull to the Sturgeon Agriplex Aug. 14. Professional bull riders from around the world will assemble at the annual event, looking to hang on and stay on as long as they can. During the half time, children will have the opportunity to emulate the bull riders during the mutton bustin’ segment. Admission to the event ranges from $6 for children aged 5-12 to $35 for a family of five.
