This facility is already booked next year for an event that will assist high school artists in promoting their work. Being the organizer who spearheaded the past Celebrating Life and Culture gala, I am dedicated to showcasing students in the visual and performing arts. Having a facility so close by, will give the opportunity of students being involved in a variety of activities.
Addressing the visual arts, we used this event as a learning experience. Students were asked to pick an original piece of art, have it gallery ready, write an artist’s statement, sign release papers, and promote their work throughout the evening. All this could not happen in the school setting alone as they need to eventually become entrepreneurs. During the course of the evening, students were able to sell their art. One piece of student art was auctioned off, due to the fact that a few people were interested in it. What a highlight for that individual. Local business sponsors indicated that they were interested in displaying students’ art throughout town.
Due to the fact this was also a fundraiser; students were given the opportunity to volunteer for our local hospital. This is truly how community and school can work together.

This is a very exciting time for our schools in Morinville to have a Community Cultural Center adjacent to one of our schools. This will afford many opportunities for the youth of our community to showcase their talents.
Many of us have had the opportunity to attend the yearly musicals and plays that are presented by both the junior and senior high each year. Having a theatre with appropriate seating that will accommodate upwards of 450 people will be an amazing asset to the schools.
This venue is centrally located to all of our schools in the community and may be used for many other events, dance recitals, cheer performances, art gallery, band concerts, yoga class Christmas Concerts and the list goes on and on.
I think in discussing this we also need to discuss the advantages to the town as well in ensuring the viability of the centre. The Town of Morinville handles all the bookings of our schools. If the Town was to have a conference where they may need additional space for breakout rooms etc. they will have the opportunity to use the school at their discretion. This will at least double the available space making the possibilities for the Community Cultural Centre limitless. The ability to bring in conferences to our community will increase the traffic in our town and in turn increasing revenue to local business. In closing I do feel that this is a positive for the youth and community at large to have such a wonderful resource in our community.

  4. The Community Cultural Center will offer many wonderful opportunities to the children of our schools.

We have play productions at both GH Primeau as well as Morinville Community High School each year. Currently our schools are limited for seating so the Community Cultural Center will allow more people to attend these marvelous productions. This will be a tremendous asset to our schools.

Additionally, our schools will be able to utilize this facility to display their art, perform band concerts, hold award ceremonies, Christmas productions, etc..

The Center is well situated in the community allowing all schools to benefit. I believe the opportunities this center will offer are limitless, and the children of our community will be using this facility for many years to come.
