Morinville Legion recognizes excellence

Morinville Royal Canadian Legion member Lucien Beaupre was presented the Legionnaire of the Year Award by Morinville RCL President Emmanuel Allard. Beaupre is the first recipient of this award at the Morinville Branch.

The presentation took place Jan. 29 at the Annual Awards night. Other milestones that evening included the first four recipients of the Branch Service medal, awarded to Linda Getzlaf, Bob Peterson, Gerry Morrow and Wayne Willis.

The new 2010 membership award was presented to Claude Phaneuf and MaryLou Wagler. The only other person to receive a membership award was Dennis Compagnat in 2008.

The Legion also celebrated a membership milestone that evening. When Jeffrey Barclay paid his membership card he was the 300th member of the branch.

The evening included more than $7,000 presented to Senior and Youth organizations in the communities of Morinville, Legal and Alexander First Nation.

Morinville Royal Canadian Legion member Danny Clarke chats with Bernie Honish of the Alliance Church and Legion Padre Gary White. The Alliance Church received a Certificate of Merit at the Legion Annual Awards Night.

Certificates of Appreciation and Merit were presented to 10 businesses/organizations and 65 individuals. Business recipients included Hunters Print and Copy, Sobeys, Fish & Game Association, Tim Hortons, Legal Lions, Morinville Greenhouses, Sal’s Famous Donairs and Pizza and the Town of Morinville.

The Kuchta family: Orest, Marilynne, Justin and Shelby each received a Certificate of Appreciation at the awards night. The community-minded family have numerous hours of volunteering at the Legion and in the community.
