Legal – The Legal Vipers did not have much time to rest between regular season and playoffs. The club travelled to Slave Lake Friday night to play a previously cancelled game against the Winter Hawks and returned to home ice Saturday night to play the first game of playoffs against the Onoway Ice Dogs.

Unfortunately for the Vipers both contests ended in defeat.

The Winter Hawks handily beat the Vipers 11-4 Friday night, building on a first period 6-0 lead to add another three goals in the second and two goals in the third. The loss brought the Vipers’ season record to 11-11-0 and pitted them against the Onoway Ice Dogs Saturday night.

After struggling to best Onoway over the past couple of seasons, the Vipers did defeat the Ice Dogs once during the regular season. However, Saturday night’s playoff opener ended in a 5-2 decision for the Ice Dogs.

The Vipers play the second game of the best-of-three series this Friday night in Onoway. Game time is 8:45.

There were three other NCHL playoff games over the opening weekend. The Drayton Valley Wildcats defeated the Rocky Rams 7-1, the Edson Ice shut out the Hinton Eat 7-0, and the Slave Lake Winter Hawks defeated the Athabasca Aces 8-3.
