Morinville – The Morinville Titans ended the 2010-2011 Noralta Junior C Hockey League regular season with an 8-5 victory over the winless Sherwood Park Renegades, a club that had but nine skaters and one goalie to contribute to the contest.

The Titans kept the Renegades off the board during the first period while accumulating three goals for themselves during the opening 20 minutes. Second period game play saw the Titans pick up another two goals including an unassisted shorthanded goal scored by Yanick Forcade when the Renegades had a five-on-three advantage. The Renegades only goal of the frame came when Titan Matt Proulx took a shot that bounced off Renegade Gerremey Gryrocheski and into the titans’ net.

However, the Renegades picked up another two goals in the final period off Titans backstop Harley Catling, who was thrown in the net during the final frame. The Titans answered with another three of their own to end the contest 8-3.

The victory brought the Titans to a respectable 18-6-4 record this season and secured them fourth spot in the league, a position that gives the Titans a bye in the first round of playoffs.

The top four clubs in the Noralta league get a bye and wait it out for the next eight to battle it out in the qualifying round. The Gibbons Broncos (8-17-3) secured the 12th and final spot. The leagues’ remaining three clubs – the RCAC Rivermen, Wabamun wings and Renegades seasons come to an end with their final regular season games.
