Morinville – Twenty-one groups attended Tuesday night’s meeting of Morinville Town Council, each hoping their project would be approved for funding in the second round of Centennial Grant applications. In total the 21 proposed projects sought $63,725 in grant dollars from the Town.

Council approved $100,000 in Centennial Community Grant funding for the centennial year. The first round of grant applications saw $31,415 in funding approved, including $2,500 of in kind donations.

Round two of applications brought out a much larger flood of requests, including a number that had no direct centennial flavour to them. Grant requests ranged from $5,000 to erect two new historical tableaus in Morinville to $5,000 to fund a fundraising show and shine in Cardiff. Although not all requests were for the maximum funding amount, the lowest request was from the Friends of the Morinville Public Library who sought $1,200 to create a centennial quilt that would be placed on display at the Community Cultural Centre.

But not everyone who came to council Tuesday night received the full funding they were looking for and one group left empty handed. Council granted $56,100 of the $63,725 requested. Below is a list of the grant requests and what they received.
