Sturgeon County – About a dozen seniors representing nine seniors groups attended Sturgeon County Council for a photo opportunity Tuesday morning. Before lining up for a group shot with council, Sturgeon County Councillors unanimously proclaimed Seniors’ Week for June 6 to 12.
But the proclamation was not merely verbal support for the County’s seniors; council is also putting some money behind the initiative. In addition to spending approximately $800 to advertise the proclamation, Sturgeon County will once again offer free library memberships at any of the libraries in the county. Sturgeon County residents aged 55 and older are eligible for the free membership during Seniors’ Week as well as the following week (June 6 – 18). Libraries will bill Sturgeon County for the memberships.
