Morinville – Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools will celebrate an outdoor mass Thursday morning to commemorate the 150th anniversary of St. Albert Catholic Church and the City of St. Albert. Staff and students from across the school division will gather for the celebration along with parents, community members and special guests.

“Our Jubilee Mass on the Hill is an opportunity for us to recognize our rich history, to give thanks to God for the blessings we have received, and to celebrate the strength of our community,” said GSACRD Superintendent David Keohane in a release Wednesday. “It also provides an opportunity for students to understand and appreciate their role in furthering the value that Catholic education brings to our communities.”

More than five thousand people are expected to attend the outdoor Mass. Archbishop Richard Smith of the Archdiocese of Edmonton will be the main celebrant at Mass. Parish priests from St. Albert, Morinville, and Legal, as well as some Oblate priests who have served within the community over the years are expected to attend.

The program is schedule to begin at 9:15 a.m. with Mass running from 9:45 to 11 a.m. The Mass will take place on the hill below the Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools’ Division Office on St. Vital Avenue, across the street from St. Albert Parish and Youville Home.
