Morinville – Edmonton’s 630CHED rolled into town Thursday morning to broadcast live from the Community Cultural Centre. The popular AM station conducted four interviews during their morning slot and five in the afternoon, all with locals, and all in conjunction with the community, its history and the town’s St. Jean Baptiste Festival.
Morinville was selected as a broadcast location in CHED’s Hometown Tour contest after Councillor Lisa Holmes noticed an ad for the contest and entered Morinville in it.
St. Jean Baptiste Festival Chair Ron Cust got the ball rolling at 6:45 a.m., followed by Councillor Holmes, Mayor Lloyd Bertschi and Tammy Frieze, the latter of whom spoke about Saturday’s Noah’s Ark Hamster Races.
Afternoon’s local on air personalities included Community Cultural Centre Manager Laurie Stalker , Ed and Anne Kryskow, who ran the festival for many years and 2011 Legacy Winner Raymonde Riopel. The program closed with an on air performance by Country Rock Band Joe Hikk, who performed a concert at the Centre Thursday night.
In addition to the on air interviews, CHED ran a pancake breakfast and bbq to coincide with the morning and drive home slots.

I wanted to say thank-you to everyone who came out to yesterday’s event. It was a wonderful day. Our community really steps up to help and yesterday was no exception. A lot of people worked very hard to ensure that this went well including Ron, Paul and members of the St. Jean Baptiste Festival Committee and the Community Services staff from the Town of Morinville.
A special thank-you to the Morinville Tim Hortons that donated the coffee and to Stuart and staff at Sobey’s who donated all of the food, the members of the Morinville Fire Department who brought the new fire truck by (and thrilled both my sons with a tour) and to you, Stephen, and the Morinville News staff who covered the event (and to anyone else that I have missed!). Hopefully all of this exposure will bring some new people by for our Festival this weekend!
