Morinville – Friday’s heavy downpour made for a tense situation and some cross departmental cooperation at the Morinville Parish Hall.
The abundance of rain resulted in a steady flow of water into the basement of the Parish Hall where the Town of Morinville and library have set up quarters while renovations are done to Civic Plaza.
Acting CAO Debbie Oyarzun said Morinville Public Works staff responded to the situation by diverting the flow of water away from the building while all town and library staff pitched in to prevent damage to files, furniture and electrical items.
Everyone pitched in to soak up the water with mops and shop vacs provided for the occasion by the Morinville Fire Department and staff.
Oyarzun said there were no damages due to the fast action of staff.
Renovations to Civic Plaza are set to begin Monday with Synergy Building Systems set to begin demolition of the interior of the building. Town and library staff will make use of the Parish Hall until some time in December when renovations are completed.
Not mentioned is that some members of the Parish Hall Committee were there also to help with the clean up as this is a Parish building. The committee brought a sump pump for outside and are committed to insuring that the town stay at the hall is worry free and does not interfere with their daily tasks.
Yes, mention of the hall committee would have been an accurate piece as they are volunteering both their time and personal supplies. Once again this is an indication of what it means to live in a small community. Everyone working together for the good of the town focussing on positive responses rather than the opposite.
