Chamber looking for a few good golfers…or not so good golfers

By Staff

Morinville – The Morinville and District Chamber of Commerce will be hitting the links Sept. 9 at the Cardiff Golf and Country Club during their annual golf tournament and barbecue and organizers are excited about the possibilities.

“The Chamber golf tournament is a fun day where we get everyone together and they can network, meet new people and promote their business,” said Chamber Manager Jaye Parrent. “It really is a fun tournament. There’s no pressure to be great or anything.”

While the game is open to serious and not so serious golfers, Parrent said participants can expect some novelty holes again this year. “One year we did the longest drive with a marsh mellow,” Parrent said. “Another time we did blindfold putting – stuff like that.”

But the fun does not begin and end with novelty variations on golf. The Chamber will once again have food and beverage holes as well as plenty of door prize raffles, all provided by local businesses.

Last year’s tournament assembled 70 golfers of varying experience and the Chamber would like to increase that number this time around. Registrations prior to Aug. 15 are $85 per golfer and include 18 holes of golf, power cart and a steak dinner. Those registering after the early bird deadline will pay $100.

As in previous years, the Chamber tournament is not reserved for Chamber members or even business people. Parrent said everyone is welcome to come out for a fun day of golfing.

[SUBHEAD]More help needed

In addition to looking for golfers for the Sept. 9 tournament, the Chamber is currently looking for a few more people to sit on the committee as well as businesses to sponsor holes and provide raffle prizes.

“It’s just really great to be involved with such a fun activity,” Parrent said, noting hole sponsorships are $500 in monetary or in kind donations. Businesses sponsoring a hole can set the parameters and conditions themselves – closest to the pin, hole in one, etc.
