Corn Fest this weekend and we have passes

By MorinvilleNews.com Staff

Bon Accord – It’s three days of corny activities this weekend at Prairie Gardens. The popular destination for tourists and locals will be holding its Sweet Corn Fest over the Labour Day weekend – Sept. 3 – 5.

The festival provides a full day family event with corn eating contests, corn mazes, face painting, corny jokes, veggie art and plenty of other activities.

The Sweet Corn Fest features the Great Prairie Corn Maze, folk music, puppet shows, and hands-on corn doll craft activities for children, in support of the Bon Accord and Gibbons Food Bank.

This weekend’s entertainment includes performances by the Keith Remple Folk Band from noon until 3 p.m. and Kompany Family Theatre’s performance of Zero to Hero at Camp Squeally Moo, the latter an interactive children’s theatre performance.

With children heading back to school and the Bon Accord and Gibbons Food Bank experiencing a 70 per cent increase in need this season, patrons are asked to bring a box of Kraft Dinner, juice boxes or nut-free granola bars to support the back to school needs for the food bank.

Corn Fest kids’ activities run from 11 a.m. to5 p.m. throughout the weekend, with extended hours on Saturday night for Moonlight Maze Adventures until 10 p.m. That event is something you’ll want to bring a flashlight for.

The weekend will allow people to visit the local food Corncession to sample popular foods, including hot buttered sweet corn, cornbread, corn kebabs, tortillas, tamales, popped corn and many other treats. The event is sponsored by Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines, Travel Alberta, Sturgeon County and the Town of Bon Accord.

Admission to Great Prairie Corn Maze is $9.95 for individuals; $9.25 for families; $8.50 for groups of 15 or more. Parking is free.

Prairie Gardens is located at 56311 Lily Lake Road, Bon Accord. Follow 97 St. Hwy 28 to Lily Lake Road, 1 km east of Bon Accord. For information call 780.921.2272 or visit www.prairiegardens.org.
