Train collision claims life

Morinville – A man is dead after colliding with a train Sunday afternoon. Morinville RCMP responded to a collision along Range Road 264 north of Secondary Highway 633 around 3:40 p.m. Sept. 18.

Police say a southbound semi crossed the tracks and was struck on the passenger side by an eastbound train. The railway crossing had a stop sign for southbound traffic.

Neither of the two individuals in the train was uninjured; however, the male driver of the semi was transported to hospital by ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries.

RCMP are still investigating the collision and the name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
